DALLAS — Representative Jasmine Crockett of North Texas, along with several other Democrats, walked out of President Trump’s address to Congress in protest.
In an Instagram post captioned “We WALKED OUTTA THE BS,” Crockett expressed her frustration with the President’s speech and explained her decision to leave.
“He’s up there, spewing all kinds of nonsense… and bull [expletive], let me just be real. We weren’t going to sit for that [expletive],” Crockett said. “If he had any sense, maybe we would’ve stayed, but we all know he doesn’t.”
Crockett was accompanied by other Democratic congress members, many wearing black clothing with various slogans. Her shirt read “unbought and unbossed” with an image of the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress.
Other shirts featured messages like “resist” and “President Musk,” criticizing the involvement of the billionaire in the Trump administration.
“I absolutely wanted to show up, and I absolutely wanted to resist,” Crockett said. “I didn’t want [President Trump] to think he could intimidate us out of our seats… No, these are our seats, we earned them.”
Following the walkout, the congresswoman issued a press release stating, “I walked out because I want the President and my constituents to know that I’m not going to sit here while you try to shut down the VA hospital in my district.”
Crockett has been outspoken against President Trump’s extensive federal spending cuts. Prior to his January push to pause federal funding, Crockett publicly condemned the move.
“We’re going to fight him tooth and nail. We’re going to challenge all the lies, and we’ll continue serving the people who even elected him, despite their own regret,” Rep. Crockett added.
