DPD Make Arrest in Uptown Sexual Assault

DALLAS – Dallas police have announced an arrest in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman in the State Thomas area of Uptown early Monday morning.

The police found the suspect in the same part of the neighborhood where the alleged assault occurred.

Details of the Incident: Authorities report that a man sexually assaulted a woman in the 3000 block of Thomas Avenue around 6 a.m. Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the same area, though they stated more details would be shared once the suspect is booked into jail.

Photos of the suspect were released by Dallas police on Monday afternoon, but it remains unclear whether the arrested individual is the same person depicted in the images.

Neighbors’ Accounts: Jacquelyn Maly, a local resident, recalled waking up to the sound of a woman screaming for help outside. “I was woken up by a woman screaming outside for help, saying that someone was following her,” Maly said. She rushed to her window and saw two figures running down Thomas Avenue. Maly, along with others, immediately called 911. By the time she went outside, the police had already arrived, and the man had fled.

“My alarm wasn’t set to go off for another 30 minutes, so I was in a deep sleep,” Maly added. “That’s just how loud her screams for help were.”

After police shared the suspect’s photo on social media, word of the assault spread quickly throughout the neighborhood. Madison Fritz, another local resident, expressed her shock at the arrest. “It’s sad. It’s just crazy,” she said. “It’s definitely not something that has ever occurred here.”

Many neighbors, including Maly, are relieved that the suspect can no longer pose a threat to others. “I’m very glad that I decided to call 911 because I think that definitely helped,” Maly said. “Especially with my neighbors also calling 911 and being there for a stranger in need, I think that really helped escalate the process of finding him.”

What We Don’t Know: The suspect’s name has not been released by the authorities. Dallas police have not disclosed how they located the suspect or any additional details regarding the alleged assault. They also have not confirmed if the suspect may be connected to other crimes in the area.
