DALLAS – Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is extending operating hours at its transit stations starting Thursday as it braces for snow and ice expected to impact the region.
Crews are actively preparing to clear rails and waiting areas to ensure safe and accessible transit during the inclement weather. Despite these efforts, DART is advising passengers to anticipate delays on Thursday as the agency prioritizes safety and operational efficiency.
What to Expect
Weather forecasts indicate Wednesday will be the last dry day in Dallas for at least 48 hours. A mix of snow and icy conditions is expected to arrive Thursday, potentially disrupting travel.
“It’ll be a collaborative effort between the city and DART to ensure safe rides for our passengers,” said DART spokesperson Jasmyn Carter.
Starting Thursday, DART transit stations will remain open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. to accommodate passengers during the storm. Carter emphasized that while the agency is prepared to clear roads, rails, and train stations, delays are likely.
“We encourage riders to plan their trips with delays in mind,” Carter said. “This is about safety—clearing paths, ensuring passengers can board safely, and adjusting schedules as necessary.”
Preparing for the Storm
DART has a history of navigating challenging winter conditions, including previous years when ice and snow impacted services. In coordination with the city of Dallas, efforts are underway to prioritize critical routes, such as those near hospitals and other essential facilities. The city has prepared salt barns and trucks to treat key roadways.
At this time, it remains uncertain how specific routes may be affected or if services will be suspended should road conditions worsen. “We’re striving to maintain normal operations because we understand the importance of getting people to work and home safely,” Carter added. “However, decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.”
DART is also committed to supporting the unhoused community during the storm. Warming centers are available to riders, and additional shelter information is accessible via the DART website and GoPass app.
