DALLAS — U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas) was among several Democratic lawmakers who staged a walkout during former President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday night.
Crockett, known for her outspoken approach, took to Instagram Live shortly after exiting the House chamber, where she criticized the speech.
“He’s up there spewing all kinds of nonsense and [expletive], let me just be real, and we weren’t just going to sit for that [expletive],” she told her followers.
The coordinated protest featured lawmakers dressed in black attire, each wearing statements of resistance. Crockett’s outfit paid tribute to trailblazing Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, featuring Chisholm’s image alongside the phrase “Unbought and Unbossed.”
While the group planned the walkout in advance, Crockett emphasized their presence in the chamber was intentional.
“We earned these seats, and we’re going to fight him tooth and nail. We will combat the lies and continue to serve the people—even those who elected him, despite their own dismay,” she said.
Following her social media remarks, Crockett released an official statement addressing her decision to leave the speech.
Who Is Jasmine Crockett?
Rep. Jasmine Crockett has been a rising force in the Democratic Party since taking office in 2023, succeeding longtime Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, who held the seat for three decades.
Her direct confrontations with conservative lawmakers—most notably Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia)—have gained national attention, even leading to a parody of her on Saturday Night Live.
Crockett’s influence extends beyond Congress. She served as the national co-chair for the Harris-Walz campaign and was invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
Before her election to Congress, she represented Texas’ 100th district in the state legislature from 2021 to 2023.
