Boil Water Notice Issued for Lewisville Residents Following Water Main Break

LEWISVILLE, Texas — The City of Lewisville has issued a boil water notice for residents following a significant water main break. This precautionary measure is in place to ensure the safety of drinking water due to potential contamination from a damaged 30-inch water line.

As a result of this disruption, Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) has announced the closure of 21 campuses and facilities on Monday, February 5, 2025. Parents of students at affected schools should have received an email notification from the district.

Incident Overview

On February 2, 2025, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) instructed the City of Lewisville to issue the boil water notice after the water main break. Crews worked tirelessly through the night to repair the damaged line, but the boil water advisory remains in effect for residents and businesses.

What Residents Need to Know

To safeguard public health, residents are urged to boil water before consuming it—whether for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing hands and face. Boiling water for at least two minutes ensures that harmful bacteria, which could pose serious health risks, are eliminated.

In addition to boiled water, bottled water or other safe water sources may be used.

Impact on Local Businesses

Over the weekend, many residents experienced water outages, and local health inspectors have been actively contacting more than 600 restaurants to inform them of the boil water notice and to provide guidance on how to operate safely during this period.

Boil Water Notice Duration

While the boil water notice is expected to last at least one day, the city is unable to provide an exact timeframe at this moment. Residents will be notified when the advisory has been lifted.

Proper Boiling Procedures

To ensure all harmful bacteria are eliminated, water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for at least two minutes before it is cooled and used.

Why This Matters

Individuals who are especially vulnerable to harmful bacteria—such as children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems—should take extra precautions during this boil water notice.
