DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The family of a Lancaster teenager kidnapped and murdered in 2017 is one step closer to justice.
Desmond Jones is one of six people charged in connection to Shavon Randle’s death. According to Police the 13-year-old was held at ransom and then killed over stolen drugs. After five days in court, a Dallas County jury convicted Jones of engaging in organized criminal activity. The prosecution called for the maximum sentence.
“Because there is no reason to show him mercy,” a prosecutor said.
Members of Shavon’s family testified about their loss.
“Her sisters are never going to be able to get her ready for her homecoming dances or prom,” said a close relative. “We’re not going to get to see her walk across the stage at graduation.”
During the punishment phase of the trial Jones had several outbursts and was removed from the courtroom. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
“My office is committed to getting killers off the streets of Dallas,” Dallas County Criminal District Attorney ’John Creuzot said. “I really want to thank the jury for listening to all of the evidence in this case and returning the right verdict and to the judge for her patience and presiding over a fair and
impartial trial for both sides.”
DA Creuzot said Jones showed no remorse and no obvious signs of redemption and he, and others like him who kill children, will be bought to swift and certain justice.
