DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The infamous “Leaning Tower of Dallas” still stands more than a week after becoming an internet sensation.
The elevator shaft of an old building near HWY 75 and Haskell was exposed during a building implosion that took everything surrounding it to the ground. People from across the metroplex and around the country flocked to the site to get selfies of the building being compared to Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.
“My wife and I came from South Dakota for this,” said one man taking photos. “How often do you get to see something like this?”
Demolition crews began demolishing the tower Monday with a wrecking ball. The slow and tedious process continues.
“We estimated this to take 3-4 days,” said a spokesperson for Lloyd Nabors demolition. “The Wrecking Ball weighs 5,600 pounds and is sized to fit the crane we are using based off of OSHA 1926.859. The size is based off the rated load for the crane.”
The company said it is standard procedure to start at the top and work your way down.”
