Family of Slain Car Theft Suspect Wants Answers From Farmers Branch Police

DALLAS – WBAP/KLIF – The family of a car theft suspect shot dead in Dallas by Farmers Branch Police want answers from that police department about the fatal shooting of 35 year old Juan Moreno.

Community activist Carlos Quintanilla joined the father of Moreno to call on Farmers Branch Police to explain their policies involving the use of deadly force, to explain why they did not apprehend Moreno at an earlier time, and why Dallas Police were not called to assist.

Authorities say when they tried to stop Moreno he ignored them and tried to escape; police responded by firing through the windshield, striking and killing Moreno.  Officials say two others in the vehicle with Moreno were held for questioning.

The shooting occured at a shopping center on Emerald Street on Dallas.  One officer is reported to have suffered a minor injury, and Farmers Branch Police say no Dallas Police officers were involved, though the shooting occurred within Dallas City limits.

Friday, Dallas Police indicated they had additional video of the shooting as the investigation continues.
