DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Hundreds of people paid tribute to Grand Prairie Police Officer A.J.Castaneda during a candlelight vigil at Grand Prairie Police Headquarters Sunday night.
The department’s Public Information Officer, Chelsea Kretz said “the department is hurting, our city is hurting, and our profession is hurting.” But Kretz, who considers herself a co-worker and friend said it’s important to remember his service to the community. “I think where we can have a little solace in all of this is just to remember his legacy, and the smile that he put on people’s faces.”
Castaneda was killed on June 7th while standing outside his squad car running radar. “As a society in and of itself, we lost one of the best people we could, you know, that we can even imagine.”
Funeral arrangements are pending with Wade Funeral Home in Arlington.
