RED OAK (WBAP/KLIF)- A Red Oak elementary charter school was on lock down Tuesday after police say a student brought his father’s amo to school. Red Oak police say they found pistol ammunition in one of the toilets at Life School Elementary. The child’s father reported the missing ammo: two Glock 43 Pistol Magazines and eights rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition.
Concerned parents rushed to the school to pick up their children for early dismissal after receiving an automated voicemail explaining the incident. Felicia Clemmons has a son and niece at the school and didn’t expect something like this to happen. “I dropped everything and flew over here…It was a scare, I was going 115 on the highway,” Clemmons said.
Now Clemmons questions the safety of the school and wants more security at every entrance. “I don’t think the school is as secure as they say it is and this day and time as kids enter the building they need to check back packs,” Clemmons said. “Don’t get me wrong I love this school but I think it needs to be more secure,” she said.
Another parent who wanted to be remained anonymous said she was scared but tried to remain calm. “We’ve been involved in law enforcement for many years so I’m kind of used to this and I do have confidence in what they do to make sure everything is done as best as it can be and for the safety of the kids,” she said.
Police say the student didn’t have access to the gun because it was in a gun safe and there were no reported injuries.
