Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Service Attended by Hundreds in Austin

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A number of North Texas police agencies were on hand in Austin Sunday for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial Service.

The service included the reading of names of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2018.  The list included Officer Garrett Hull of the Fort Worth Police Department who was shot in the head during the apprehension of a burglary suspect; and, Corporal Earl Givens, who was shot during a robbery at a North Texas Home Depot.   21 names in all were read, and will be inducted onto the Memorial Wall.

The Memorial Ceremony began with a procession up Congress Avenue starting from the Congress Avenue bridge. The procession will include Honor Guards, combined pipe and drum corps, motorcycles, bicycles and mounted units from across the state.

The service, also included a riderless horse, taps, rifle volley and a flyover. on the south steps of the Capitol building. Gov. Greg Abbott will be delivering the keynote address and presenting medals and resolutions to the surviving family members.
