DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The former President of Dallas County Schools has been sentenced in connection with a corruption scheme that brought down the embattled school bus agency.
A judge gave Larry Duncan three years probation and six months of home confinement for tax evasion related to the scandal.
He must also pay back around $44,000 in restitution with interest and do community service.
During the sentencing hearing Tuesday, the judge told Duncan she is suspicious of other issues involving DCS bribery but pointed out that the state did not indict him on bribery charges.
Former DCS Transportation Director Mike Williams said the punishment was too lenient.
“Well, the judge did say that she was suspicious about the charges that had been brought and perhaps that wasn’t all the charges that should have been brought. We don’t know. I like the judge am suspicious,” he said.
The scandal sent shock waves throughout both DCS and the City of Dallas.
“We were a tight-knit family. We had each others back and we watched out for each other,” said Williams.
Last Friday, former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison for taking $450,000 in bribes and kickbacks related to the scheme. Five people have been charged in the case.
