DUNCANVILLE (WBAP/KLIF) — Duncanville police are one of the first departments in Texas to use a new tool to fight property theft.
They’re using microscopic dots, that are detectable by black light and are imprinted with a unique Identification number. When officers find a cache of stolen property, they scan the dot… leading them to the rightful owner.
“They’re little, small,” says Officer Doug Sisk. “They look like pieces of glitter.”
Officer Sisk tells WFAA through the company, ProtechDNA, users can create a profile, and an extensive list of what they own.
These “microdots” can even help recover some things like jewelry that might not otherwise be found. “If that ends up in a pawn shop, or something, it’s hard to identify. That’s because it doesn’t have a serial number,” Sisk says.
