DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Former first lady Laura Bush is calling a new zero tolerance immigration policy from the Trump Administration cruel and immoral.
Bush wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, saying she appreciates the need to enforce international boundaries, but that the government should not be in the business of “warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert.”
The former first lady wrote that the policy breaks her heart.
A spokesperson for current first lady Melania Trump released a statement to CNN, also saying she “hates to see children separated from their families” and that she “hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform.”
Nearly 2,000 children have been separated from their families since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the policy.
