A Group of Retired Vets Need a New Home to Restore Historic Aircraft

Jim Hill, President/Vought Heritage Foundation (WFAA)

Grand Prairie, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A group of retired vets who spruce up historic military aircraft is looking for a new home to continue their work.

WFAA-TV reports that over 50 members of the non-profit Vought Heritage Foundation has been has been restoring old aircraft for 22 years.

Fruits of the foundations labor are many, to include the World War II era experimental ‘Flying Pancake’ (pictured right) now on display at the flight museum in Dallas.

Foundation President Jim Hill says there are several more projects in the pipeline, but work to restore them may come to a halt at the end of June as a hangar used to do the work will no longer be available for lease.

“I’m hoping we can find someone who’s interest in what we’re doing to help us out,” Hill told WFAA.   Hill also considers restoring old aircraft “really cool,” and something jokingly says that it keeps him and fellow Vought members “off the street.”

They’re in need of a large hangar at a good price.
