PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Plano teen was arrested for allegedly planning to carry out an ISIS-inspired shooting at a Frisco mall.
Investigators said 17-year-old Matin Azizi-Yarand planned the attack for mid-May after months of reading and watching ISIS propaganda.
According to the affidavit, Azizi-Yarand claims he was working in the name of ISIS and even wrote a manifesto explaining why…citing America’s “War against Muslims.”
Azizi-Yarand had been communicating online with an undercover FBI confidential human source for months about his plans to either make a hijrah (travel) or carry out an ISIS-style attack.
The online communications revealed that Azizi-Yarand wanted to act as a “lone wolf” and told the undercover agent he’d done extensive research.
“I’ve only been reading ISIS magazine guides for performing operations and making bombs,” Azizi-Yarand wrote.
It also showed he allegedly scouted the Stonebriar Mall for months, included paying attention to how armed the facility’s security guards were.
When the agent asked if he’d given much thought to a target, Azizi-Yarand said he’d thought of different ways to carry out his plans.
“Yes, I’ve played out some scenarios in my head ahki, lol, I don’t want to go in blind. Yes, I wanted to put America in the state that Europe is in and have soldiers deployed in the streets. Something that will cost them a lot financially too,” he wrote.
He’s charged with making a terroristic threat and criminal solicitation of capital murder.
His bond has been set at $3 million.
