North Texas Insurance Company Offers Active Shooter Coverage

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A North Texas insurance company is offering a type of policy that it said has unfortunately become a necessity for certain sectors of society…active shooter coverage.

Seth Denson of GDP Advisors said his firm noticed a gap in the market after several high profile mass shootings across the country.

“Originally, when we launched it…it was specifically available for schools. Then, we expanded into houses of worship and now it’s available to all businesses,” he said.

In order to qualify for the coverage, Denson said the policy holder must meet a few requirements.

“You must undergo, and it’s provided by the policy, a complete risk assessment evaluation and then training on what to do if a situation like this arises,” he said.

Denson said the premiums for this type of coverage are relatively low but the protections are significant.

“What we would recommend to any organization isn’t ‘hey look at this policy and buy it.’ It’s look at your organization, identify the risk within it and where are we vulnerable that there is something out there that can protect us,” he said.
