DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas ISD held a public seminar Tuesday to allow students to voice their opinions about the ongoing gun violence in Dallas and schools across the country.
Chazz Ropper, a senior at Townview, attended the Course Correction Conversation and said he believes that limiting which guns are available to purchase is vital to curbing the violence.
“I have come from a military family and I know people in my family who use these weapons in war. So, I know what they were created for,” he said.
Some students said there need to be changes to age restrictions. Others wanted more discussions about recognizing signs in unstable people before they’re able to do something tragic.
Omar Jahwar is with Urban Specialists Incorporated and said the seminar’s purpose is to help kids make Dallas schools a better place.
“How do they use this moment to actually do something positive? Not just grieve inwardly. It gives them a chance to give their voice legs so they can connect to what’s going on nationally,” he said.
Students from each school in the district wide listened to Jahwar and others speak before breaking into group to discuss solutions on how to curb the violence.
Many students said they appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the national conversation about gun violence in schools.
