FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said that the city is financially strong and only getting stronger.
Price spoke at Tuesday’s annual ‘State of the City Address’ and focused on the city’s efforts to have a competitive tax policy for businesses and homeowners.
“With the right policy Fort Worth will be in the right tax arena just as competitive as Frisco and Plano when companies are looking to relocate,” Mayor Price said.
She mentioned that the city has lowered the property tax rate by $.05 in two years.
Price also voiced support for immigration reform at Tuesday’s luncheon.
“I hope all of you will join me in expressing support for immigration reform at the national level that prioritizes families and works to find a reasonable, responsible solution to DACA,” said Mayor Price.
Price also said that the city’s homeless numbers have remained steady despite growth, but that there are still many people on the streets.
“There are hundreds of people on the streets and under bridges and 20% of them are children,” Mayor Price said. “Folks, that’s unacceptable.”
Price said that recent changes including restructuring the city’s Direction Home program and dedicating $100,000 to putting veterans in homes will make a difference.
Price ended the luncheon by encouraging all in attendance to vote in the upcoming March primary elections.
