Binky: The Non-Social, Media App

DALLAS (KLIF/WBAP) — A new smartphone app claims to take away a user’s “cravings” for social media… while being anything but social.

It’s called “Binky,” not unlike the nickname some parents give a pacifier. It’s a series of pictures, in no particular order, organized to look like an Instagram feed. Users can like, comment or “re-bink” a post. Funny thing, though… none of what the user does can be seen by anyone except the user.

The app’s creator, Dan Kurtz, says it started out as a joke. But once his friends were able to scroll through a prototype, they urged him to put it up on the App Store. Kurtz compares it to a “fidget spinner” for adults.

Binky is free to download, and available for iOS systems.

Producer Robyn Geske tried it out, and had a review to give Dave and Amy.
