Mesquite Police Officer to Face Grand Jury in Lyndo Jones Shooting

Mesquite, TX – A Mesquite police officer is due before a grand jury in Dallas County grand jury Tuesday (November 28) in connection with the shooting of a suspected car burglary earlier this month.

Ten-year police veteran Derick Wiley responded to the burglary call on November 8th. 31-year old Lyndo Jones was found in a truck with the alarm sounding, and was ordered out of the truck and onto the ground.

Jones complied, but protested, telling the officer that it was his truck and that the alarm was malfunctioning. According to Jones’ attorney Lee Merritt, his client was shot in the stomach during a struggle while on the ground; and, and shot again in the back as he reacted to a full body search.

Jones initially faced multiple charges which were later dropped after authorities confirmed that the truck belonged to him. Jones attorneys have seen dashcam footage and demand that it be released to the public.

Meantime, Jones has been readmitted to the hospital for possible pneumonia and infection from his wounds.
