Denison Police Chief Forgives Whataburger After Weekend Incident

DENISON (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Denison Police Chief says he has forgiven Whataburger after an employee denied two of his officers service Saturday night. That employee has since been fired.

Chief Jay Burch posted to the Denison Police Department’s Facebook page that Whataburger sent corporate officials to the Denison location where the incident happened and met with officers, including the two who were denied service. Burch said he appreciates the gesture and that people do not need to boycott after the fast food chain’s quick response. He said had Whataburger not responded so swiftly, however, that could be different.

Before the post, Burch had originally made a lengthy post expressing his disappointment with the incident and how the employee’s manager responded by saying “I don’t want to get into politics.”

The incident began after an employee told the two officers she wouldn’t serve them because, according to her, police officers beat up her boyfriend. Burch, however, said they reviewed a recording of the incident, which showed a routine search and no one being injured.
