DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — There’s a new app that lets DART passengers report crimes discretely and anonymously.
The app is called “DART Say Something,” which allows passengers to do a little more than simply text DART Police when something suspicious is going on.
“[Passengers] wanted to send a photograph. They wanted to send a video. They wanted to show the incident that was occurring,” said DART’s Mark Ball. “Sometimes they didn’t have enough time to describe the individual, but it’s much easier when you have a photograph.”

He says the app had been in development for around two years and that it’s not directly influenced by a beat-down that happened in July when a passenger asked a group of people to stop smoking marijuana on a train. Ball did say, however, that he hopes the app will prevent incidents like that from happening in the future.
The app can send your location to DART police, in addition to a photo or six-second video. To keep reporting an incident discrete, the app will also automatically shut off your camera’s flash to prevent your cover from being blown.
“The individuals can continue holding the phone, laptop, or whatever instrument they have at their hip or away from their ear where they could literally be using their thumbs typing the messages,” Ball said. “The individuals perpetrating the crime don’t even know they’re doing it.”
