TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A convicted child sexual predator accidentally became a free man Tuesday night after a mix-up between authorities in neighboring counties.
Last month in Johnson County, Shaun James was sentenced to more than ten years in prison on multiple counts of sexual assault with a child. Earlier this week, he was brought to Tarrant county to face other charges, including DUI. After pleading out, he was sentenced to time served.
The problem came when James was accidentally released from custody instead of being brought back to Johnson County, a mistake Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn took accountability for, saying James “should have been in custody. I take full responsibility for him walking out that door”. Sheriff Waybourn also says there will be an investigation, but says the mistake was mostly likely made in human error.
Authorities immediately worked to locate James, who turned himself into Johnson County authorities late Wednesday afternoon without incident.
