DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Dallas mayor’s task force has decided what to do with the Robert E. Lee statue.
The group voted almost unanimously Tuesday night to recommend moving the statue to a museum where members said it can be viewed in the proper context. The Dallas City Council will ultimately make that decision at a later date.
One member voted to put the statue back at Lee Park, which could be getting a name change at the end of the week when the Dallas Parks and Recreation board votes on changing it back to its original name, Oak Lawn Park.
Another member abstained from voting when the vote was boiled down to relocating the statue vs. selling it. The group first voted on whether or not putting the statue back would be a good recommendation.
The task force also heard a presentation on several Dallas street names and whether or not they have connections to the Confederate Army.
