DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — North Texans will rally today to help fund local non-profits.
Thursday, September 14 is North Texas Giving day — a tradition that began in 2009 and has grown each year. According to the Communities Foundation of Texas, 81,000 people donated to about 2,500 different organizations last year.
“The amount they gave them collectively was $37 million,” said Dave Sculin, CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas. “So this has become not just a giving day. It has become the Super Bowl of giving days nationally.”
Scullin said he hopes to eclipse last year’s totals, which may be possible considering Hurricane Harvey. He said they’ve added some South Texas non-profits to their list, despite the event historically focusing on North Texas.
“We’ve added a couple of funds, so you can provide direct support to sustainability and recovery,” Scullin said. “But it’s also important to recognize that so many of the non-profits are delivering direct services.”
