ABILENE (WBAP/KLIF News) — An Abilene Police officer was killed in a car crash Sunday night while driving to Dallas for a Crimes Against Children conference.

Detective Elise Ybarra, 33, was driving on I-20 with two other detectives and slowed down when they saw traffic due to an earlier wreck. But a white, Chevy pick-up truck did not slow down and ended up hitting them, killing Ybarra on the spot and sending the other two detectives to the hospital with what police believe are non-life threatening injuries.

Ybarra is only the eighth Abilene officer to die in the line of duty, and according to KTXS in Abilene, she’s the first woman killed while on the force.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
