DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A commission looking into alleged voter fraud during the 2016 election is facing opposition over the kind of information it’s requesting.
The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity sent a letter to all 50 states asking for information, such as registrant’s full names, address, dates of birth, political parties, the last four of a voter’s social security number, and more. They say the information will be released to the public once the commission has completed its investigation.
According to CNN, as many as 44 states have refused, in some way, to comply with the request.
But Texas officials say they’ll provide the information to the commission.
Secretary of State Rolando Pablos released a statement Friday, saying he’ll work to protect voters’ private information, while working to maintain the state’s integrity when it comes to elections.
Privacy advocates say they’re worried that states were asked to provide the information through an online portal. They say the commission should be required to send the information through established state websites, which are known to be secure.
