DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — One of the seven sailors killed on an American Navy ship over the weekend was from Texas.
Twenty-six-year-old Noe Hernandez was on the destroyer USS Fitzgerald when it crashed with a Philippine-flagged merchant ship off the coast of Japan.
The collision left seven Americans dead — Hernandez, two from California, one from Ohio, and three from the east coast.
Hernandez was from Weslaco, which is just a few miles from the Texas-Mexico border, just east of McAllen.
About 200 sailors were aboard the ship when it crashed.
