2017 State Fair of Texas announces new attractions

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The State Fair of Texas has announced this year’s schedule of events and activities plus several new attractions.

Recognizing this year as the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into World War I, fairgoers will be able to appreciate two commemorative exhibits including an in-depth look in Texas history related to that first global conflict.

As a nod to the Fair’s agricultural roots, “Agriculture in Texas” will serve as the new exhibit in the Science Place building. One section of the exhibit will highlight innovations in urban agriculture, featuring a portion of the planters from Big Tex Urban Farms as well as a smaller-scale version of the hydroponic system that can be found in the Errol McKoy Greenhouse on the Midway.

Opening just in time for the 2017 exposition, the new Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center is a 55,000-square-foot facility that meets the growing needs of the State Fair’s agricultural education programs. The multipurpose facility will attract new shows, meetings, events, and conventions to Fair Park throughout the year, as well as expand the scope of livestock and agriculture activities during the Fair’s annual event. With the goal of growing educational programs both during the Fair and throughout the year, the new facility provides more opportunities for hardworking 4-H and FFA students around the state of Texas.

Captivating crowds of all ages with mind-blowing magic tricks and illusions, World of Magic will be another new attraction this year. Located at Oak Farms Showplace Theatre in the Creative Arts building, the magic show features a performance by award-winning illusionists and even a floating robot.

This year’s State Fair of Texas opens September 29 and runs through October 22. For more details on new and special events and activities, go to the fair’s website: http://bigtex.com
