Tony Romo Practices with Mavericks Ahead of Ceremonial NBA Appearance

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was wearing a different Dallas uniform Tuesday morning.

He’ll be wearing it Tuesday night too, when he suits up with the Mavericks in full uniform for their season finale against the Denver Nuggets. Romo says the team reached out to him last week about letting them honor his athletic career in North Texas.

“Dallas has meant so much to me and my family,” Romo said after his Tuesday morning shoot-around. “The Cowboys obviously have been my life for 14 years. I’ve been at — I can’t think of the number — of Mavs games supporting them. I’m passionate about them and always will be.”

The 36-year-old Romo confirmed that he won’t actually play in the Tuesday night game. He says if he did, he’d probably regret it the next morning considering his age and the athleticism of actual NBA players.

“I feel like they’re all seven feet tall,” Romo says. “They’re all long and lean. I look like a turtle out there next to these guys. It’s a special group of guys who are talented, and the NBA is a special fraternity.

“For me it’s a huge honor to see they want to do something to say ‘Thank you for your career and what you did for the city and to help the city,'” he added. “I don’t feel like I deserve anything like this.”
