Body Found Near Trinity River is Confirmed to be That of Missing Officer

IMAG0961[1]Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) –  The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office says the body found Wednesday afternoon in a debris pile on the bank of the Trinity River is that of missing SMU Officer Mark McCullers.

SMU Police Chief Rick Shafer says the family is relieved that the search is over, though they’re grieving the loss of their husband and father.  Arrangements are being made for McCullers to be buried in the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, because he was a member of the US Marine Corps.

Shafer thanked the legions of volunteers who looked for McCullers since he disappeared on July 5th.  It was on that night, as he worked an off-duty security job near Turtle Creek, that a flash flood washed his car away.  Security camera video from the construction site seemed to show McCullers jumping out just as the car was washed away…it was found the next day, a couple hundred yards from where it disappeared.
