Religious and LGBT groups unite to denounce shooting in Orlando

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A coalition of local religious and community groups are pulling together after this weekend’s mass shooting in Florida.

“Gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual members of our community here in North Texas and throughout this country too often are the targets of hate,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. “But here in Dallas County, we stand on the side of love.”

Religious leaders, including Imam Omar Sulimen of the Valley Ranch Islamic Center came together to condemn the attack.

“On behalf of the Muslim community, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community,” said Sulimen. “We completely reject this hate and this fear that outsiders seek to instill within our community.”

The press conference was followed by a multi-faith prayer vigil for the victims of the shooting. Hundreds of people waited in line, in the rain, to attend the service.
