Carrollton (WBAP/KLIF News) – A three alarm fire damaged an apartment building and led to the early dismissal of a school in Carrollton Friday.

The fire at the complex near Kelly Boulevard and Frankford Road started around 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. Tenants say a maintenance worker had been making repairs inside an apartment when the fire started.

“It was just a little smoke and a little flame, but then the water was off and it spread upstairs and over to the next building,” says one woman who lives in the complex.

She says the fire spread so quickly, she and her husband could not take their drivers licenses, birth certificates or other personal documents before they fled.

The complex is next to Sheffield Elementary school. As a precaution, the school dismissed early.

“It’s a little shocking, but the school explained exactly what happened,” says one parent who picked up his two children and then stayed to watch the fire “I’m just happy all the kids are okay, my kids are okay. Nobody got hurt.”

Tenants say they do not believe anyone inside the complex was hurt.
