Marna Davis 2/18/16; What Breaks My Heart

My first day as a reporter in Dallas I was covering a collision between a fire truck, a cement truck and a pick up truck.  I was so distracted by all of the stray dogs running the streets I couldn’t concentrate.  I gave my lunch to a skinny dog who looked like she just had puppies.  I have been a reporter in a bunch of big cities, and I have never seen as many hungry, stray dogs running the streets as I have here.  It breaks my heart.  Maybe they’re not in your neighborhood, but believe me, it is a problem here.

Yesterday I was covering a story at Dallas Animal Services.  20 of the 58 dogs that were seized in an animal cruelty case in January are ready for adoption. After the news conference, I asked the head of Dallas Animal Services if she could take me to the back where all the animals are housed.  My chest tightened.  dogkennelThey are in little kennels, they look at you as you walk by, and you can see in their eyes that they just want out.  They just want some human love.  I asked the Director how many times a day they are taken outside and she told me, “Just once.  It’s all we have the manpower for.”  I choked up and had to leave.

I got my dog Tasi Beyoncé at the Humane Society. She was a stray little Pomeranian puppy running the streets before I adopted her. Now she is the sweetest, smartest, best decision I have ever made.  Tasipark

I’m hoping that if you read this, you will join me in trying to do what you can to help end Dallas’ stray dog problem.  Maybe you could just foster a dog for a little while and get it out of it’s cage. https://www.spca.org/foster

Maybe you’ll fall in love, and want to snuggle with that rescue dog for the rest of its life.  TasikissDallas Animal Services and the SPCA are amazing organizations and they provide animals exceptional care to get them ready to find forever homes. http://www.dallasanimalservices.org/

Let’s give these sweet animals a better life.  Everyone can do something to turn North Texas’ stray dog problem around.  Let me know if you’re willing to help.  [email protected]
