Garland Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect After Officer Injured in Ambush

GARLAND, Texas – A man was shot and killed by Garland police early Monday morning after he opened fire on officers, injuring one in an ambush-style attack.

Officer Shot While Responding to Gunfire Reports

Authorities say multiple 911 calls were made just after midnight, reporting a man firing weapons in the street in the 100 block of West Wanda Drive.

As the first responding officer arrived at the scene, the suspect immediately opened fire, striking the officer while he was still inside his patrol vehicle. Despite his injuries, the officer was able to move to safety and was later transported to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Suspect Killed in Shootout with Police

Additional officers quickly arrived, leading to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the suspect being shot. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have confirmed that multiple locations were involved in the incident but do not believe there are any additional suspects. No other injuries have been reported.

Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, though they urge residents to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

“As police officers, we understand the risks involved, but we ultimately joined the force to make a difference in our community—to serve and protect,” said Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau.

Ongoing Investigation

The identities of both the injured officer and the suspect have not yet been released. Investigators are actively working to determine the suspect’s motive.
