SMU Student Shout ‘Fire Nico’ Chants as Mavs GM Attends Basketball Game

GM Nico Harrison can’t go anywhere in the city without calls for his firing.

DALLAS — Since orchestrating the trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison has become the target of intense criticism from Dallas fans.

Frustrated MFFLs have taken extreme measures to express their dissatisfaction, including canceling season tickets and launching billboard campaigns calling for Harrison’s removal.

The main sentiment from most Mavs supporters can be summed up in two simple words: “Fire Nico.” This chant has followed Harrison since the trade, and on Tuesday night, it echoed through Moody Coliseum.

Harrison attended the SMU men’s basketball game against Pitt, where the Mustangs’ student section began chanting the three-syllable slogan, a familiar refrain across Dallas.

Unlike at the American Airlines Center, where fans have been kicked out for even whispering “Fire Nico,” SMU students didn’t hold back. Even young children joined in on the chorus.
