(WBAP/KLIF) Dallas – The majority of the runway approach strobe light towers on the Southeast corner of Dallas Love Field near the intersection of West Mockingbird and Lemmon Avenue have not been operating for weeks despite being reported to Love Field operations the end of January. These bright lights run in sequence up to the end of the runway.
While aircraft use the Instrument Landing System signal and the runways have ground lights for pilots to use as a reference, the strobe approach lights give pilots an additional tool to identify the end of the runway in cloudy, rainy and foggy weather especially at night.
Dallas Love Field has had foggy and rainy conditions at night during this outage and a recent storm system caused a ground stop at both Love Field and DFW airport.
The outage was reported to a representative of Love Field operations the end of last month however the problem still exists.
The federal aviation administration has now been made aware of the situation in an effort to have the approach lights repaired.
