The family of 62-year-old Ricky Langs said he was on the phone with his cousin during the possible road rage incident that took his life.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Ricky Langs’s family gathered in the living room, flipping through old photos and reflecting on memories of his last birthday, remembering how he always made everyone laugh.
Langs, a father and grandfather, was fatally shot while driving in Fort Worth on Monday evening. According to Fort Worth police, they received a call about the incident around 6:40 p.m. near Loop 820 East and Meadowbrook. The 62-year-old was found unconscious in his gray sedan.
Initially, police suspected the shooting may have been the result of a road rage incident.
“He was everything to us,” Langs’s sister, Melody Morrissette, told WFAA. “It doesn’t feel real. I’m still in disbelief. I just want justice because he didn’t deserve this.”
Langs’s cousin, Del Williams, shared that the two had been on the phone earlier that evening, as they often did, talking about family and old memories. During the conversation, Langs mentioned a car tailgating him.
“He said, ‘It’s this dude all the way on my bumper. Every time I move, he comes up,’” Williams recalled. “He said, ‘Dude, get back.’ Then he said, ‘Cousin, I’ll call you when I get home.’ That was the last time I heard from him.”
Police later transported Langs to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His mother, Bobbie Wofford, is devastated by the loss of her oldest son.
“That’s my baby. I’m going to miss him being around, talking to me, calling me ‘Miss Bobbie,’” Wofford said through tears.
“To whoever did this to my baby, you need to come forward. If you have a good heart, come forward, turn yourself in, and tell us why you killed my son.”
As of now, police have not released any suspect information, and no arrests have been made.
