1 Dead, Another in Critical Condition in Dallas Duplex Fire

One person was killed, another is in critical condition, and a firefighter was hospitalized after a garage fire.

What We Know:

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call about a fire at a one-story duplex in the 10600 block of Boedeker Street just before 6 a.m. Monday.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the blaze had started in the garage at the rear of the home. They quickly began battling the flames while also conducting search-and-rescue operations.

Two residents were rescued from the home and transported to a local hospital. One was later pronounced dead, while the other remains in critical condition.

A firefighter was also hospitalized after suffering a leg injury during the rescue effort. However, he is expected to fully recover.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire from the outside, preventing it from spreading to the other half of the duplex or nearby homes.

Three residents from the unaffected side of the duplex safely evacuated. The American Red Cross has been called to assist them.

What We Don’t Know:

While the fire originated in the garage, the exact cause is still under investigation.

The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
