After a fire swept through her home, the Rockwall community showed up for Revi Menasche.
ROCKWALL, Texas — When fire ravaged Revi Menasche’s home early Monday morning, the owner of a cherished local deli and coffee shop immediately focused on what truly matters.
“I’m grateful that we’re all alive,” Menasche told WFAA on Tuesday. “It could have been so much worse.”
Despite the extensive damage to her home, Menasche, affectionately known in the community as “The Bagel Lady,” insists that nothing truly valuable was lost.
“Nothing that mattered,” she said. “I lost nothing that mattered.”
The fire adds to a series of hardships the Menasche family has faced. A year and a half ago, Menasche and her husband lost their daughter, and just last month, her mother-in-law passed away. Despite these heartbreaking losses, Menasche has continued running The Bagel Lady, her Rockwall bagel shop, drawing strength from her loyal customers and the support of her tight-knit community.
The response to Monday’s fire was swift and overwhelming. First responders and regular patrons rushed to the deli to offer their help. Local businesses quickly organized efforts to raise funds for repairs, and one customer, spotting Menasche shopping for clothes at TJ Maxx, paid for her entire purchase.
“They surprise me and show up in ways I never thought they would,” Menasche said, tears in her eyes. “I’m so proud to be part of this community.”
To help the Menasche family rebuild, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up by members of the community.
For Menasche, the outpouring of love and support is a testament to her deep ties to Rockwall. “Yeah, I’m the Bagel Lady, but I feel like I’m a staple and part of something bigger here.”
