Robert Quinn (Charleston Co. Jail)

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former NFL defensive end Robert Quinn, who played for the Dallas Cowboys, was arrested early Friday morning in South Carolina after authorities say he attempted to flee the scene of an accident. Quinn, 34, faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and reckless driving, according to jail records.

Incident Details:

Around 2 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a car dealership in North Charleston after a crash involving a red truck. The North Charleston Fire Department arrived first and alerted officers that the suspect might be attempting to leave in another vehicle.

When police arrived, they found Quinn in the passenger seat of a white Dodge Challenger with its reverse lights on. The car’s driver told officers that she had been called by Quinn to pick him up from the scene.

Quinn, who appeared disoriented, had visible injuries to his head and face, slurred speech, and was initially uncooperative with police. He eventually handed over his ID but seemed confused, even asking, “Where is my wallet?” while it was already in his hand.

The police report reveals that Quinn’s red Ford F-150, which was registered to him, was found across the parking lot and appeared to be the vehicle involved in the collision. According to police, the truck struck the passenger side of a Honda Element, which then hit a blue Ford F-150 and caused further damage.

Struggle with Police:

When officers asked Quinn to exit the Challenger, he resisted, gripping the door. Police had to physically remove him from the vehicle, and he was escorted to the ground after attempting to pull away from officers.

A woman who was with Quinn said they had met earlier that night at G-Club, a gentlemen’s club where she works. Another employee of the club arrived at the scene, stating that Quinn had left the club alone about an hour before the crash.

Crash Timeline:

Using city surveillance cameras, police were able to piece together a timeline of the events. The cameras captured Quinn’s truck veering off course around 2 a.m., crossing an intersection and median before entering the dealership parking lot. While the collision itself wasn’t directly captured, it was heard on the footage.

A few minutes later, the footage shows a person walking through the lot, stumbling and falling several times before a white Dodge Challenger arrives around the same time the fire department arrives.

Quinn’s NFL Career:

Quinn, a native of North Charleston, S.C., had a standout career in the NFL, most notably with the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and finally, the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. He was drafted 14th overall by the Rams in 2011 and quickly established himself as a force on the defensive line.

In 2019, Quinn had a solid season with the Cowboys, recording 11.5 sacks and 25 tackles. He was later traded to the Chicago Bears, where he signed a five-year, $70 million contract.

Previous Legal Issues:

This is not Quinn’s first encounter with law enforcement. In July 2012, while playing for the St. Louis Rams, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a single-car accident in Florissant, Missouri. He was also charged with failure to exercise care and driving without insurance.

In August 2023, Quinn was arrested in Summerville, S.C., after allegedly damaging four vehicles in a subdivision and engaging in a physical altercation with a woman. He was charged with multiple offenses, including hit-and-run and third-degree assault and battery.

What’s Next:

Quinn was booked into Charleston County Jail, and his preliminary court hearing is scheduled for February 27, 2025.

The latest incident adds to a growing list of legal troubles for the former NFL player, raising questions about his personal conduct after his football career.
