DALLAS – A man in Far East Dallas was critically injured on Tuesday afternoon after being shot by police during an armed confrontation near Centerville and Shiloh Roads, just east of White Rock Lake and a block from Casa View Elementary School.
Incident Overview
The Dallas Police Department reported receiving multiple 911 calls around 3:20 p.m. regarding a man brandishing a firearm and threatening nearby individuals as well as passing vehicles.
When officers arrived on the scene, they issued repeated verbal commands for the man to disarm. According to police, the man refused to comply and instead pointed his weapon at the responding officers. In response, officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.
The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Interim Dallas Police Chief Michael Igo stated that officers administered immediate first aid until Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel arrived.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported during the incident.
Proximity to Elementary School
Although the shooting occurred within a block of Casa View Elementary School, officials from Dallas Independent School District confirmed that classes had already ended for the day, and school operations were unaffected.
Unanswered Questions
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the suspect or clarify the circumstances leading to the incident.
Aerial footage captured by SKY 4 showed two firearms on the roadway near the scene, including a long gun. However, police have not confirmed whether both weapons belonged to the suspect.
Dallas police refrained from answering questions during an initial update on Tuesday and stated that a comprehensive media briefing would be held in the coming days. It remains unclear when body camera footage from the responding officers will be made available to the public.
