NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) –The FBI is looking into a flood of racist text message threats sent to African Americans in North Texas and across the country.
The messages read quote “You have been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation. be ready at 12 AM on November 13 sharp with your belongings.”
Then it threatens death if the recipient doesn’t show up. “Be prepared to be searched down once you’ve entered the Plantation Group, and you will get KILLED if you don’t come.”
Christina Smith told our media partner WFAA TV she was extremely disturbed after reading the text.
“When I found out there were several of us that had received the same text, then it got scary,” she said.
The FBI issued a statement in response to the threats.
“The FBI is aware of the offensive and racist text messages sent to individuals around the country and is in contact with the Justice Department and other federal authorities on the matter. As always, we encourage members of the public to report threats of physical violence to local law enforcement authorities.”
Smith said she’s relieved the FBI is looking into the matter and adds she believes the timing of the threats is no coincidence.
“Other than the election and someone out there because of my political views or beliefs,” said Smith. “Now they are threatening that this is what we’re going to do to you.”
The Feds are asking anyone who believes they’re in danger to contact local law enforcement and report the threats AT 1-800-CALL-FBI.
