Frisco Police Warning Residents Amid A Resurgence of Jewelry Thefts

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Frisco police are once again warning residents to be on alert amid a wave of reports of thieves stealing jewelry from unsuspecting marks.

The department said they’ve received five reports of theft since late last week and older female members of the South Asian community seems to be the prime targets.

Investigators said the criminals typically walk up to the victim and may ask for directions as well as wanting to give them a hug or a blessing.

It’s the third year in a row Frisco Police have seen this phenomena.

The department is urging residents to heed this advice:

  • Keep valuables, such as their jewelry out of sight while in public.
  • Don’t allow anyone you don’t know into your personal space.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, keeping your eyes and ears open.
  • Walk in groups when possible, as it tends to discourage opportunistic thieves.
  • Know your location, especially when out walking.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity is asked to report it by calling 972-292-6010 or 911.
