TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Tarrant County elections administrator is addressing a ballot error that’s sparked concerns after a video went viral on social media.
The comments come after a man standing outside a polling place said that he voted for former President Donald Trump but when his ballot printed it showed he voted for Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday October 21, the first day of early voting.
Tarrant County Election Administrator Clint Ludwig says the situation was handled immediately.
“This is not uncommon and there’s a practice in place called spoiling the ballot to handle this. The individual notified the lead clerk that he needed to spoil the ballot and he was issued a new ballot and was able to vote,” he said.
Officials don’t believe the voter’s issue stemmed from a problem with the voting machine itself and encourage everyone to check their selections carefully.
“What we believed to have occurred is that the individual did make a selection on the machine and that selection was printed on the ballot. When they went to cast their ballot, they checked it and realized that that was not the vote that they wanted,” said Ludwig.
The situation comes amid record turnout amid early voting.
Ludwig said the county processed more than 58,000 ballots during the first day of early voting. Tarrant County assures voters there’s no reason to lack confidence in the system.
It recently announced changes in security measures for this election including serialized paper ballots and more training for election staff.
Early voting ends November 1. Election day is November 5.
