North Texas Police Say Obsessed Man Fatally Shot Co-Worker Over ‘Long Work Breaks’

LEWISVILLE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – New disturbing details have emerged about a fatal shooting at an office building in Lewisville last Thursday.

According to an affidavit, Lewisville police say 51-year-old Travis Merrill shot his Allegiance Trucks co-worker Tamhara Collazo at her desk because he was obsessed with her and for taking long lunch breaks.

Investigators say Merrill was getting angrier with her for not paying attention to him. Collazo told Merrill to stop watching her and reported his behavior to human resources, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that Merrill confessed to the crime and admitted to bringing guns to work on multiple occasions and waiting for the right time to shoot Collazo.

After watching her sit in her car as usual, Merrill grabbed two guns. “As she re-entered after lunch, he followed her inside to her cubicle and ambushed her, firing the gun several times,” according to the affidavit.

The Lewisville Police Department’s temporary headquarters is near Allegiance Trucks on Lakeway Drive, so officers responded within minutes of the shooting.

Unfortunately, Collazo succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

Investigators said Merrill allegedly said Collazo “caused him pain, and he wanted her to feel pain, so he intentionally planned to shoot her at work with everyone there,” the affidavit states.

Merrill remains behind bars at the Denton County Jail on a murder charge with a $10 million bond.
