Arlington Police Arrest Suspect in Hit-and-Run that Killed North Texas Marine

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Arlington police arrested the suspect connected to a hit-and-run that killed a North Texas Marine on her way to drills on June 23.

Investigators believe 26-year-old Josue Rodriguez was the driver of a 1975 Chevy Cheyenne pickup truck that hit 21-year-old Areauna Laws along I-20 near Matlock Road.

Laws was having car trouble and was standing outside her vehicle when she was hit.

Police said witnesses gave investigators a good description of the suspect’s vehicle and told them which way it drove off after the collision.

Officers found the truck abandoned at a nearby shopping center. Rodriguez is the registered driver of the vehicle.

Police said he initially claimed he left his truck outside a venue along Camp Bowie Boulevard West in Benbrook while attending a party.

Surveillance video from local businesses shows him leaving the venue and later abandoning it a parking lot. Investigators said it appears Rodriguez was talking on a cell phone.

Rodriguez is charged with accident involving death. He’s being held on a $40,000 bond.

Law’s family said she was engaged to a fellow Marine and had plans to get married in June of next year.
