FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Calls are growing for the firing of the Fort Worth police officer involved in a recent off-duty shooting following an attempted hit-and-run along I-35W last week.
Officer William Martin told investigators he fired several shots into a truck after the driver allegedly tried to ram his vehicle after a collision.
That driver was shot several times and is expected to recover.
“Disturbing Inequity” founder Abiola Agoro told city council at a Tuesday night meeting the group wants martin fired.
“It is not normal for an officer to engage in this kind of behavior out of uniform again putting a stain on this work but to then on top of that not have any requirement to release that information…and that…that is a crisis,” she said.
Resident Gerald Banks Senior told council members Martin allegedly wrongfully arrested him in 2013.
“There’s no reason why Martin should continue to work for the Fort Worth Police Department. He is a menace to society. Fire Martin now,” he said.
Martin first came under scrutiny in 2016 after the arrest of Jacqueline Craig, who called 911 for help and was detained, went viral nationwide. Craig sued the city in an excessive force lawsuit and won $150,000.
Martin has been placed on restrictive duty and stripped him of his police powers amid the investigation into the shooting.
