LULAC Calling for State, Federal Investigations Into Raids Conducted by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Office

HOUSTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The League of United Latin American Citizens is calling for a state and federal investigation voter fraud raids on some of its members and elderly Hispanic election volunteers.

During a Monday press conference, LULAC President Roman Palomares blasted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for ordering what he said are illegal searches premised on voter fraud.

He outlined the case of 87year-old voter registration volunteer Lydia Martinez, who lives in San Antonio. She’s been a LULAC member for over 35 years.

She said last Tuesday, she opened her door to nine officers decked out in tactical gear and guns who were there to execute a search warrant.

“Lydia was interrogated for over three hours. Her home was searched with officers emptying all of her drawers in her home in search of her mobile phone, her computer and any documents to aid in their investigation,” said Palomares.

LULAC said Martinez is one of several members who were targeted.

He accused Paxton of violating the voting rights act through measures of intimidating Hispanic voters.

“It is evident through his patterns of lawsuits, raids, searches and seizures that he is trying to keep Latinos from voting. LULAC will not stand idly by,” said Palomares.

In a letter to the Department of Justice, Palomares and LULAC CEO Juan Proano mentioned the country’s history when it comes to voter suppression.

“These actions echo a troubling history of voter suppression and intimidation that has long targeted both Black and Latino communities, particularly in states like Texas, where demographic changes have increasingly shifted the political landscape,” said the letter.

Paxton’s office said it launched the investigations and subsequent operations due to reports alleging some organizations were unlawfully registering non citizens to vote.

The Election Integrity Unit was created after former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

Paxton pledged to look into allegations of voter fraud across the state despite some Trump administration officials stating the election had been secure.
